Here's a somewhat random list of books that have been helpful to me. These are in no sense technical manuals or 'how to' books, and they won't be much direct help to you in your efforts to track down Grandma Gooseberry's birthplace. But if your goal is to try to gain some insight into the world our ancestors called home -- especially in Ohio and the northern US during the late 18th and early 19th centuries -- you might want to take a look at some of these.
